Class A Boys

100 Meter Dash
As expected, South Harrison's Freddy Canary ran away with the event, taking the win by almost half a second in 10.99. The race for 2nd was close with Webster's Cole Deal taking the spot in 11.46. Sherman's Elijah Debord just nipped Doddridge's Seth Davis for 3rd 11.53 to 11.54. Just behind in 5th was Tyler Consolidate'd Mark Rucker in 11.57. Canary also ran a 10.85 in the trials, which is the 6th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance.
RunWV's Current Score: 5 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
South Harrison's Freddy Canary was dominant here as well taking the win by almost a full second in 22.00, which is tied for the 7th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Webster's Dawson Tharp edged away for 2nd over the last 100, finishing in 22.97. Doddridge's Seth Davis was 3rd in 23.24 with Ravenswood's Austin Garrett nipping Clay-Battelle's Logan Forquer for 4th, 23.52 to 23.53. Two that made the finals scratched, one of which I had placing.
RunWV's Current Score: 9 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
South Harrison's Freddy Canary started in lane 5, and had made up the stagger on lanes 6-7-8 before coming out of the first turn. Magnolia's Pat Mirandy tried to match him down the backstretch, but couldn't hold on, but he was in solid control of 2nd. Canary continued to pull away to the finish, winning in 49.01, which is the 8th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Magnolia's Brooks Parsons ran a disciplined race and closed well to move into 2nd in 50.42. Mirandy easily held the 3rd spot in 50.87. Richwood's Isaac Blake was 4th in 51.86. Tyler Consolidated's Destry Nelson snared the 5th spot out of the 1st heat in 52.06, just a bit quicker than Midland Trail's Joshua Cooper's 52.12.
RunWV's Current Score: 13 of 18.

800 Meter Run
The pack was bunched up early with St. Marys' Walker Hashman at the front. He continued to lead through the 1st lap and passed in a little under a minute. Magnolia's Spencer Shepherd was in 2nd at 60 seconds. Ritchie's Clayton Bee was in 3rd with Richwood's Jakob Sachin in 4th, Pendleton's Dawson Apple in 5th, and Ritchie's Jarett Allender in 6th, all coming through in 60. Hashman continued to lead through the turn and just held off a backstretch push from Bee to take the lead into the final turn. Bee was in 2nd. Allender had moved into 3rd. Shepherd was in 4th. Apple was in 5th, and Ravenswood's Blake Jarrell was in 6th. Down the stetch, no one could close up on Hashman, and he ends up taking the wire-to-wire victory in 2:00.56. Allender moved up to 2nd in 2:02.69. Shepard moved up to 3rd in 2:03.91. Apple held the 4th spot in 2:04.35. Jarrell just held off Williamstown's Kole Sutton for 5th 2:04.58 to 2:04.89.
RunWV's Current Score: 17 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
The field wasn't nearly as aggressive as last year, with a big pack going out in 1:06 this time around. It was St. Marys' Walker Hashman out quickly to the lead through the turn, and then backing off on the backstretch as the field bunched up. Williamstown's Joshua Chambers moved into the lead at about 200 meters. At the line, it was Chambers, Tyler Consolidated's Spencer Corley, Doddridge's Carter Lipscomb, one of the Ravenswood Jarrell's, St. Mary's Brady Gorrell, and Hashman all coming through at 1:06 and with at least 4 more within about a stride of them. On lap 2, Chambers continued to lead through the turn as the pace slowed considerably, keeping a lot of people in contact. Lipscomb assumed the lead late in the backstretch and led through the turn. Then Hashman moved to the front bringing both Jarrell's with him. At the midway point, it was Hashman in the lead at 2:22 with Gorrell in 2nd, Blake Jarrell in 3rd, Bryce Jarrell in 4th (I don't really know the order there with those two), Corley in 5th, and Lipscomb in 6th, each matching the 2:22. There were 12 still within about a second of the lead. The pace started to pick back up on lap 3 with Gorrell moving into the lead at around the 1000 meter mark. This is when things really started to unfold. Hashman took the lead back with about 70 meters remaining in the lap, but then Pendleton's Dawson Apple made his bid for the lead, taking it with about 40 to go in the lap and holding that lead to the line at 3:33. Hashman was right behind him, matching that time. Blake and Bryce Jarrell were in the 3rd and 4th spots at 3:34. Gorrell was in 5th, also in 3:34. Corley was in 6th at 3:36. On the final lap, Apple continued to lead through the turn, but Hashman accelerated coming out of the turn and pushed into the lead. Apple responded, and they quickly opened a small gap on the other contenders. Apple made another bid for the lead late in the backstretch and pulled beside Hashman, but Hashman held. Hashman put on one more burst with about 150 to go, and Apple wasn't able to match that as Hashman pulled away for the 3 second win in 4:36.11. Apple easily held the 2nd spot in 4:39.40. Blake Jarrell held off a late surge from Bryce Jarrell to take 3rd, 4:40.84 to 4:41.12. Gorrell held the 5th position in 4:42.27. Lipscomb moved back into 6th position, lost it to a hard-charging Chambers, and then got it back to claim the final spot in 4:43.66.
RunWV's Current Score: 22 of 30.

3200 Meter Run
The field got out rather quickly with Ravenswood's Bryce Jarrell and Blake Jarrell taking the early lead, and then Paw Paw's Dominic Tanouye sprinting past down the backstretch and continuing his surge through the rest of the lap to open a significant gap on the field, coming through the opening lap in a blistering 61 seconds. Jarrell and Jarrell were in 2nd and 3rd at 1:06 with St. Marys' Brady Gorrell in 4th at 1:07 and Doddridge's Carter Lipscomb just off his shoulder in 5th with the same time. Madonna's Angelo Quattrocchi was in 6th at 1:08. Tanouye continued to lead the 2nd lap, but they were realing him in. He passed in 2:19. The Jarrell's continued to hold the next two spots at 2:21. Gorrell remained in 4th, also at 2:21. Lipscomb was still in 5th at 2:22. Quattrocchi remained in 6th at 2:24. The leaders made the pass on Tanouye before the end of the first turn. The new front four had a single file line that was opening a gap on the rest of the field. Jarrell and Jarrell were now running 1-2 with both coming through in 3:38. Gorrell was in 3rd with Lipscomb right at his side in 4th, both matching that 3:38 time. Quattrocchi was up to 5th in 3:42. Tanouye was clinging to 6th in 3:44. At the midway point, it was still a pack of four with Bryce Jarrell now in front at 4:56. Gorrell had moved into 2nd also at 4:56. Blake Jarrell was in 3rd, also at 4:56. Lipscomb was in 4th at 4:57. Quattrocchi remained in 5th at 5:02. Ravenswood's Deshone Cooper had moved into the 6th spot at 5:05. Lap 5 saw Gorrell make a move to the lead, coming through in 6:13. Blake Jarrell had moved into 2nd at 6:14 with Bryce Jarrell matching that time in 3rd. Lipscomb was still right there at 6:15. Quattrocchi remained in 5th at 6:23. Cooper still held 6th at 6:28. On lap 6, Gorrell took control of the race, stretching his lead to 4 seconds, coming through in 7:29. Blake Jarrell was opening a slight gap on the other two, passing in 7:33. Lipscomb had moved into 3rd in 7:34. Bryce Jarrell was in 4th at 7:35. Quattrocchi remained in no man's land in 5th at 7:47. Cooper was still 6th at 7:51. Gorrell continued to extend his lead on lap 7, pushing it out to 10 seconds, coming through at 8:43. Blake Jarrell was in control of 2nd at 8:53. Lipscomb had opened a gap, coming through in 8:56. Bryce Jarrell still held 4th at 9:01. Quattrocchi was still 5th at 9:09. Cooper remained in 6th at 9:16. On the final lap, Gorrell secured his spot by closing well to finish in 9:52.50, 17 seconds ahead of the next finisher. Blake Jarrell wasn't threatened and easily held the 2nd spot in 10:09.79. Lipscomb easily held onto the 3rd spot in 10:12.96. Bryce Jarrell held the 4th spot in 10:22.68. Quattrocchi kept the 5th spot in 10:27.32. Williamstown's Quentin Fleming made the pass into 6th in the last 15 meters to finish in 10:30.32. He actually had the 2nd fasted final lap in the field.
RunWV's Current Score: 28 of 36.

110 Meter High Hurdles
St. Marys' Dalton Houser edged into the lead coming off the 9th hurdle and pushed it over the final hurdle and to the line to win in 16.23. Only Tucker's Ben Callaway, 4th in 16.69 was under 16.90 among the rest of the field. One finalist false started, and another was disqualified.

4x400 Meter Relay
It was St. Marys with the early lead, crossing at 52.6. Magnolia was in 2nd, Ritchie in 3rd, Doddridge in 4th, Richwood in 5th, Tucker in 6th. Magnolia made the pass into the lead on the backstretch, but St. Marys took it back coming out of the turn. At the line, it was St. Marys at 1:47. Ritchie used a better exchange to cross in 2nd at 1:48 with Magnolia inches behind with the same time. Richwood was in 4th at 1:50 with Tucker in 5th, also at 1:50. Doddridge was in 6th at 1:51. Ritchie was in 3rd at 2:43. Richwood was in 4th at 2:44. Tucker was in 5th at 2:46, and Ravenswood was in 6th at 2:48. On the final leg, Magnolia had 400 meter runner-up Brooks Parsons, so they were not threatened and took the win in 3:31.22, which set a new State Meet Record for the foursome of Jason Beisel, Ethan Herrick, Pat Mirandy, and Brooks Parsons. It also completed the team title run for them. St. Marys just barely held off Ritchie, who received a strong anchor leg from Gabe Murphy, 3:34.57 to 3:34.74. Tucker made a late pass back into 4th in 3:38.27. Richwood held onto 5th in 3:39.38. Ravenswood was 6th in 3:40.47.
RunWV's Current Score: 51 of 66.

Ritchie was in 3rd at 2:07. Pocahontas was in 4th, also at 2:07. Williamstown was in 5th at 2:08. I believe it was St. Marys in 6th at around 2:11. Clay-Battelle's Gunner Brummage and Tyler Consolidated's Spencer Corley each cleared 5'10 in taking 3rd and 4th, respectively. Only 8 jumpers cleared the 5'8 opening height.
RunWV's Current Score: 65 of 84.

Pole Vault
A mishap in warmups sent Doddridge's Bentley Edgell to the hospital and likely shook the nerves of the remaining competitors. Edgell is home now and progressing well but has a long recovery road ahead of him. After settling back in, it was Doddridge Freshman Reese Burnside that was the only vaulter to go higher than 12'0 with his vault of 13'0. South Harrison's Preston Peck and Doddridge's Dawson Evans each cleared 12'0 in taking 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Ritchie's Jarett Allender and St. Marys' Wyatt Shultz cleared 11'6 in taking 4th and 5th, respectively. 4 more cleared 11'0.
RunWV's Current Score: 69 of 90.

Long Jump
Summers County's Jacob McBride sailed 21'11.75 on his final jump to seal the win. It also gave him the 9th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. South Harrison's Freddy Canary took the 2nd spot with a jump of 21'7.75. Gilmer's Chase Steele was 3rd with a 20'6.50. St. Joseph's Isaac Bias was 4th with a 20'3. Tucker's Will White was 5th with a 20'1. Clay-Battelle's Seth Casino just missed 20' with his 19'11.50 jump for 6th place.
RunWV's Current Score: 72 of 96.

Shot Put
Magnolia's Jakob Barrows sent his 3rd throw 49'0.25 to win the event by over 4'. Only Wirt's Casey Stanley was able to top 44' with his 44'7.75. Tygarts Valley's Jayden Stafford was the only other one over 43' with his throw of 43'3.75. Magnolia's Jared Barrows was the only other one to top 42' with his throw of 42'0.50.
RunWV's Current Score: 75 of 102.

Discus
Sherman's Tommy Harper sent his 1st throw 146'11 to put pressure on the rest of the field, and no one could respond. Doddridge's Cole James had his best effort on his final throw, but at 140'8, it was just good for 2nd. Magnolia's Jared Barrows was the only other thrower over 130' with his 135'2.
RunWV's Current Score: 80 of 108.

The final score of 80 of 108 means that just 74.1 % of the people picked to place did indeed place. That's one of my worst efforts ever, and it gets worse when you see the lists below. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
